Species Name: Svuutakk
(S-voo tack)

Home Planet: Tuul

Physical Properties:
Svuutakk are cactus like creatures. Their bodies are covered in tiny needles. At birth and in their youth, these are next to invisible to spot. As they progress in age, the needles become more visible and lengthen. Much as one could expect, Svuutakk needles are very painful if jabbed by. One must take great care when approaching a Svuutakk if they do not possess the thick, leathery skin most Tuul species are known for.

A good pair of gloves are a suitable alternative for coming into contact with these creatures. If angered or threatened they will swing their thick tail around, smacking whatever has frightened them with thousands of cactus needles.

The sclera of their eyes is usually lightly tinted, and pupils may come in any variety of color. The arms of a Svuutakk are rather massive, often larger at the hands than their feet are. These large appendages have two, thick, toe-like claws. Any number of larger needles may also sprout anywhere on their arms, legs, shoulders, heads or backs. Their feet have three small claws. The most common colors for Svuutakk are dull shades of light green, yellow or even brown, however, darker shades may be seen as well.

The density and shape of a Svuutakk’s needles may vary greatly. Traditional, and most common is straight with moderate thickness. However some stay very close together and almost fuzzy to the touch, others are very rigid and long whilst others form small hooks on the ends and become a painful entrapment for those too close.

There are mild differences between male and female Svuutakk. Female Svuutakk have curled, rounded ears with fuzz-like hairs inside to protect them from sand particles and other foreign bodies. Females also have little spurs on their heads. Females may sprout flowers upon their heads or tails, and even sometimes along their arms or backs.

Males have antlers that vary in size and point count depending on age. Their ears are pointier and less rounded. Males often have thicker, longer needles sprouting from their heads/faces, back/shoulders and ankles. Males may have flowers just like a female, but it is less common. A male may also have horns instead of antlers or in some cases, may possess both.

Names:
The Svuutakk usually have two parts to their names, both usually will start with the same letter. Avvye Aeriuchek for example.

Clothing:
Their clothing is often flowy and loose, but practical. Females may wear dress or skirt-like clothing, males often have a variety of clothing types wrapped around their waist and lower body. They may also have such strapped across their chest but very rarely wear full shirts. Svuutakk also like to adorn themselves in self-made jewelry, stones, gems, and other things they have found. They do not often wear any footwear.

Psychology:
Svuutakk protect their own and leave others to the work of protecting their own likewise. They like to stay out of the affairs of others as they feel it only ever ends in war. They typically live in clans that may vary from a few families of Svuutakk to 50+ families. They live in the deserts of Tuul in harsh conditions many species would wither away in.

Relationship with Other Species:
While Svuutakk are not considered a hostile group, they are somewhat anti-social—at least the ones who live a traditional lifestyle on Tuul. Having watched many a war ravage entire planets, the Svuutakk have come to the conclusion that the only reason other species extend a helping hand or offer friendship is to get something in return. Thus their species is largely a loner, nomad species, residing in the deserts of Tuul where they take care of their own. If they happen to be in the area another species needs help and their own are already safe, they have been known to assist, although all further contact is ceased immediately.

Svuutakk will always help a mother with child though, regardless of their species. They will even bring them back into their clan to care for until they feel ready to leave. Svuutakk place a very high value on mothers and their young.

Other:
The Tuulimede have tried to befriend the Svuutakk before, but these cactus creatures don’t seem interested. Commander Iruulu’uk was successful in befriending a young girl from one of the local clans however.

The Tuulimede assisted the Svuutakk when the Qwuedeviv invaded. Although thanked graciously, the Svuutakk made it clear that the Tuulimede should mind their own business.

Svuutakk can go weeks without food or water. They can store water in their tails.

Svuutakk can live in extremely high temperatures.

Svuutakk males often have a very “fearless warrior” feel about them, protecting their families, siblings and clan.

Although this is the customary lifestyle of a Svuutakk, they can also be found off planet, so they do not absolutely have to behave in this fashion.
